About Me

I was born in what was then known as Umtali, Rhodesia, in 1940.

(It is now known as Mutare, Zimbabwe.)

I grew up on a farm in the Eastern Highlands of the country, not very far from the border with Mozambique, in the Melsetter district, and at the age of six I started as a boarder at Melsetter School.

High School years - again as a boarder - were spent in Umtali, and when I left school I went to Barkly House in Cape Town, where I qualified as a teacher. I spent the next few years teaching at various schools in Rhodesia........Gatooma, Norton, Admiral Tait in Salisbury (now Harare), Macheke and Que Que.

During this time I spent a few months in Europe on leave and acquired a taste for travel! I resigned from teaching and went to live in Greece, working as a nursery governess to a family in Athens. This was a very pleasant job, as I had plenty of free time to do the things tourists do, and to travel to various interesting places, such as Crete and Rhodes, Mykonos, Delphi and the Peloponnese. You can read the story HERE .

After I went back to Rhodesia, I met my husband, Paul, and we were married on the farm in Melsetter in 1969. Paul is an electrical engineer, originally from England.

Jonathan was born in Que Que in 1970, and Adam followed in 1972.

In 1976 we moved to Salisbury (now Harare) and lived in Highlands until 1982, when we emigrated to Australia.

We have lived in Brisbane ever since. The boys are now grown up and living their own lives. Jonathan and his delightful Yonna had their first baby girl, Eva, on the 6th August, 2001. A second daughter, Francesca, was born on 21st April 2004. You may see pictures of the little girls on their own web site. Adam has a challenging job with a Pharmaceutical Company. He and Stephanie live in Beaudesert, from where he commutes daily.

Paul retired in 1998, and now enjoys gardening and pottering at home. I worked for some years for the Australian Bureau of Statistics, interviewing the public for various statistical surveys, and I have also retired now. My latest hobby is webdesign - you may see some of my work HERE
